ATHENS, GA — Considering the hole they had dug for themselves in the first 30 minutes of the game, the fact that Florida Gators had a chance to either tie or win on the last possession is a rather remarkable achievement. If Dan Werner’s pass to a wide open Vernon Macklin under the basket had gotten through, the Gators would have had a chance to win in overtime. If Werner had elected to shoot from the corner instead of passing to Macklin, it’s a coin flip whether it’s a game-winner or a heartbreaking miss but that’s something we’ll never know.
