HOUSTON — TCU had a very potent offense on the way to an NCAA super regional appearance last season. It lost several of those key hitters, but that hasn’t seemed to matter so far this season.
The Horned Frogs had very little trouble with Cal State Fullerton’s pitching staff last weekend. They also have sent the MLB scouts here at Minute Maid Park out of their seats a little early by jumping on Texas Tech starting pitcher Chad Bettis.
The Frogs, which entered the weekend with a fantastic .365 batting average, have scored five runs on eight hits in four innings off Bettis, who will be one of the top college pitching prospects entering the MLB draft in June.
TCU veteran catcher Bryan Holaday and designated hitter Joe Weik are leading the cause at the plate so far in this game.
Can’t say enough about the job the TCU offense has done so far this season. Just a remarkable showing thus far from a lineup expected to take a small step back.
Speaking of TCU’s pitching, starting pitcher Steven Maxwell didn’t get off to a good start. However, he hasn’t allowed a run in three-straight innings after giving up a two-spot in the first inning.
Maxwell is another potential prospect to watch this weekend.
TCU leads the Red Raiders 5-2 in the fifth inning.
