HOUSTON — TCU starting pitcher Matt Purke turned down first-round money last summer to attend college. Missouri starting pitcher Nick Tepesch hopes to earn a great deal of money between now and the MLB draft in June.

Both pitchers have looked solid so far today, as the Horned Frogs and Tigers are tied at 1-1 in the fifth inning.

Purke, who had a less than stellar start against Cal State Fullerton last weekend, has struck out seven batters and allowed just a run in 4 2/3 innings. Tepesch, meanwhile, has struck out three batters and allowed just two hits and a run in four innings.

Tepesch, who hasn’t had a great start this season, finally is looking the way many expected him to this season.

The Tigers look much better today because of that.

Should be a good finish here in Houston.
