Orlando journeyman center Adonal Foyle is retiring after 13 NBA seasons.

The 35-year-old has long been considered one of the truly great guys in the league, both respected and admired by his teammates and fans. He founded the nonprofit Kerosene Lamp Foundation in 2005 to help children. The 6-10 center is coming off a 2009-10 campaign in which he oftentimes couldn’t even practice due to a right knee injury.

“It just never really quite got back to where I could feel like I could keep pushing it and do what I wanted to,” Foyle told the Orlando Sentinel. “Basically, I never really got back to that place where I felt like I could make a contribution. My thing has always been that the game has really been too good to me to really be around it if I can’t give anything to it.”

Foyle appeared in 733 regular-season games throughout his career and averaged 4.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game playing for Golden State, Memphis and Orlando. He was selected 8th overall in the 1997 NBA Draft out of Colgate.
