The backup quarterbacks made some noise in the NFC South over the weekend, though for different reasons and different causes and different implications.

The most serious storyline was in Tampa where Buccaneers‘ starting quarterback Josh Freeman was lost with a broken thumb on his throwing hand and backup Josh Freeman has assumed command.

The other storylines involve the Saints and Panthers.

Chase Daniel, the second-year quarterback from Missouri, is going to make things difficult for New Orleans as it tries to decide on a backup to Drew Brees. Daniel completed 15 of 21 throws and led the offense to 24 points in a 38-20 victory over the Texans in the Superdome.
