DAVIE, Fla. — Without a doubt this was one of the strangest sights I have ever seen after an NFL practice, but there he was, Miami Dolphins defensive end Kendall Langford and some of his teammates grabbing rakes and combing the grass of one of the practice fields. This was not a lesson in groundskeeping, but in essence a treasure hunt to find Langford’s missing 2.5-carat diamond earring.

Apparently, at some point during practice Langford’s earing fell out and he didn’t even realize he had forgotten to take them off before practice. Fellow defensive linemen Ryan Baker and Montavious Stanley stayed out there with him looking everywhere for the prized piece of jewelry after the rest of the defensive line went inside and after about an hour, Langford retired to the locker room and left the search up to the grounds crew and other staff members.

But before he could get inside, Langford was mobbed by television cameras and reporters interested in hearing the story behind the lost earring, and Ben Volin of The Palm Beach Post captured the details nicely in his Daily Dolphin blog, complete with video.

“I forgot I had it on,” said Langford, who revealed the earring was not insured. “I’m going to go to meetings and then come back out here.”
