Michigan likes to do the “Big Brother” thing with Michigan State , relishes it, as if the annual in-state showdown that gets the Spartans frothing every October is just another conference game the flagship school should pretty much always win under normal circumstances. But nothing about the last three years at Michigan has been normal, by a long shot, least of all the back-to-back-to-back losses to a rival it would rather be able to take for granted.

Weekly notes from the undercard. Louisiana-Lafayette hasn’t been to a bowl game as a member of the FBS, but with one more win, the Ragin’ Cajuns will be bowl-eligible and in good shape to make their first postseason trip in 40 years.

If Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson didn’t own the title of “Fastest Man in College Football” before today, it was only because the margins are too small and the circumstances on the field too variable to discern among individual players.
Dana Holgorsen is not real happy with West Virginia fans this week after they failed to come out in force Saturday for a 55-10 Homecoming beatdown of Bowling Green . Only 46,600 fans showed up to watch the Mountaineers’ move to 4-1, a week after more than 62,000 packed Mountaineer Stadium for a nationally televised, primetime visit from LSU that supposedly showed WVU fans as some of the loudest and proudest in the country.

At some point since last December — most likely after the departure of quarterback Terrelle Pryor in June, but before Saturday’s complete offensive collapse against Michigan State — the fate of the four veteran Ohio State players suspended along with Pryor for swapping memorabilia for cash, tattoos and other perks became a footnote in a much larger saga, with much higher stakes . Compared to the spotlights on Pryor, exiled head coach Jim Tressel and the imploding quarterback situation, Boom Herron, DeVier Posey, Mike Adams and Solomon Thomas were forgotten men — which may actually be a good thing, according to the Columbus Dispatch, because at least two of them likely aren’t going to be back on time : The return of Ohio State tailback Daniel Herron and receiver DeVier Posey from their start-of-the-season NCAA suspensions could be delayed by at least one more game barring a change of heart by the NCAA, sources told The Dispatch this morning.
